In April of 2001, the headline in the Los Angeles Times read, “Doubting the Story of the Exodus.” It covered a sermon that had been delivered by the rabbi of a prominent local congregation over the holiday of Passover. The number of books and articles dealing with various aspects of World War II has increased at a phenomenal rate since the end of the hostilities. Prophets of the Past is the first book to examine in depth how modern Jewish historians have interpreted Jewish history.
